Peruvian Amazon, Timber Sector Innovation
Pilot Projects has been at the forefront of re-inventing solutions that link wood products to forest sustainability. In 2022 we launched a project in collaboration with the Peruvian National Council of Science, Technology and Innovation to help improve the social and environmental outcomes of the wood product manufacturing sector in the Amazon forest region of Ucayali. Working with an amazing team of co-creators we engaged with ten local woodworking companies. We visited their workshops, hosted innovation workshops, led online courses and helped these ten SMEs design and build new physical prototypes that would help lead to better outcomes for the businesses, and ultimately the forest environment. Key considerations included better use of raw materials, timber sourcing choices, circularity strategies for their products and communication of sustainability values to their customers.
